Wet Cleaning Vs Dry Cleaning – The Major Differences
With so many professional cleaning processes available today, dry cleaning, wet cleaning, to laundry and wash and fold, it’s easy to get confused and overwhelmed.
The term “dry cleaning” refers to the process of cleaning clothes using a liquid solvent. While still a liquid, the term “Dry” in dry cleaning refers to the fact that we use no water in the cleaning process.
Instead, we use a liquid solvent to clean fabrics that will degrade in water or delicate fabrics that cannot withstand the rough tumble of a washer and dryer.
In comparison, “wet cleaning” is a water based process that uses sophisticated computer-controlled machines and mild, yet effective biodegradable detergents. We precisely measure and tailor water and solvent levels to fit each garment’s specific needs. Then, if needed, we dry garments to exacting humidity levels to ensure they are never over-dried and retain their shape.
Laundered items such as dress shirts, jeans, slacks and pants are washed in high capacity washing machines. Then they are pressed, steamed and precisely finished to your specifications.
Wet cleaning is a more detailed, water-based process that uses sophisticated computer-controlled machines and mild, biodegradable detergents. We precisely measure water and solvent levels and tailor them to fit each garment’s specific needs. When desired, we can dry garments to exact humidity levels to ensure retain their shape are not over-dried.
Absolutely! Wet cleaning is recognized by the EPA as one of the most environmentally friendly options available today. The EPA commissioned a case study of wet cleaning versus dry cleaning and found “wet cleaning usually performs as well as dry cleaning or better for some garments.”
All garments cannot be wet cleaned because wet cleaning will cause some garments to stretch, shrink and/or fade.
Wet cleaning also may not be the best solution for your particular garment, stain or issue. While wet cleaning can be a better choice to deal with some stains, dry cleaning may be a better to clean certain types of fabrics.
